    Leh Designated as Place for High Court Sittings in Ladakh

    Srinagar// The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has formally designated Leh as the place in the Union Territory of Ladakh where Judges and Division Courts of the High Court may hold sittings for hearing and disposal of cases.

    The decision has been notified by the Registrar General of the High Court in exercise of powers under Section 2(2) of the Union Territory of Ladakh (Sitting of Bench of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in Ladakh) Regulation, 2026.

    The Regulation provides that Judges and Division Courts of the High Court may sit at such place in the Union Territory of Ladakh as may be appointed by the Chief Justice, with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

    The notification states that the Department of Law and Justice, UT of Ladakh, vide communication dated September 22, 2026, conveyed the approval of the Lieutenant Governor for appointment of Leh as the place for holding sittings of the High Court in Ladakh.

    Accordingly, the Chief Justice has appointed Leh as the place where Judges and Division Courts of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh may sit for hearing and disposal of such cases and matters as may be assigned or directed from time to time.

    The notification has been issued by the Registrar General, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and has come into force with immediate effect.
