Four people lost their lives in a tragic accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway when their truck plunged into a deep gorge after being hit by a landslide. The incident occurred near Sherbibi in Ramban district at approximately 5 am. As a result of the landslide, vehicular movement on the highway was suspended.
Details of the Accident
- Truck: The victims were traveling in a truck, which was en route to Srinagar from Jammu.
- Deceased: The deceased individuals were identified as truck driver Mohd Afzal Garoo (42) and his brother Altaf Garoo (36) from Kulgam, as well as Irfan Ahmed (33) and his brother Showkat Ahmad (29) from Anantnag.
- Cattle: The truck was also transporting approximately six cattle for domestic use, all of which perished in the accident.
Rescue Operation
- A prompt rescue operation was initiated by local volunteers and police.
- Despite the challenging circumstances, all four bodies were successfully retrieved from the mangled remains of the truck.

- The landslide not only resulted in the tragic loss of lives but also blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
