
Khelo India Winter Games 5 to commence from February 22 at Gulmarg
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has announced that the fifth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games will be hosted at Gulmarg from February 22 to 25, 2025. Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo emphasised the importance of leveraging this national-level sporting event to promote Jammu and Kashmir as a global tourism destination.
During a high-level meeting held to review preparations, Dulloo underscored Gulmarg’s reputation as one of the country’s premier skiing destinations, advocating for exclusive competitions to attract international skiers. He also proposed exploring heliskiing events for professional players to enhance the region’s appeal among adventure sports enthusiasts.

The event will feature competitions in Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Ski Mountaineering, and Snowboarding, with over 1,000 athletes and officials from across India expected to participate. Cultural evenings, including a laser and drone show on the inaugural night, will accompany the sporting events. Participants will be housed in three- and four-star accommodations at Gulmarg, with their arrival scheduled for February 21 via Srinagar Airport.
Dulloo directed various departments to ensure seamless arrangements, including security, sanitation, transportation, power, and water supplies. He also called for cultural programmes and live telecasts to enhance the event’s visibility and engagement.
Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, highlighted the expertise gained in organising the winter games over the past four years and assured that this year’s event would be a grand spectacle. Stalls showcasing local handicrafts and cuisines will be set up to promote Jammu and Kashmir’s traditional arts and trades.
The games will commence with a grand opening ceremony on February 22 and conclude on February 25 with a medal ceremony and cultural gala. The event aims to not only celebrate sports but also position Jammu and Kashmir as a year-round destination for adventure and cultural tourism.
