Key Maroge Tunnel on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Reopens for Traffic
In a significant development for the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, recently announced the completion of a crucial infrastructure project. This project involves the construction of a 250-meter viaduct, along with a 395-meter Maroge Tunnel, both consisting of two lanes. The total estimated cost of this endeavor stands at ₹82 crores.
Enhancing Connectivity on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway
This infrastructure marvel is situated along the Ramban to Banihal section of NH-44. The completion of this 250-meter viaduct and the Maroge Tunnel is expected to have a transformative impact on the region. It is set to reduce travel distances significantly along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, which has long been a crucial lifeline for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
A Significant Milestone in Infrastructure Development
The completion of this 645-meter segment, as part of a larger project, not only shortens the travel distance by 200 meters but also addresses the challenge of steep gradients in the region. Furthermore, it provides an alternative route that bypasses the infamous Sita Ram Passi slide area, known for its instability and disruptions to traffic. This strategic infrastructure development aims to facilitate the smooth flow of vehicles, especially during adverse weather conditions, by bypassing the challenging Margo Area gradients.
A Testament to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vision
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized that this achievement is a testament to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under his leadership, the commitment to delivering exceptional highway infrastructure to the region remains unwavering. This project is not only about improving connectivity but also enhancing the overall socio-economic prospects of Jammu and Kashmir.
This announcement by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is a significant step towards bolstering infrastructure in the region, furthering the government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and economic development. It reflects a broader strategy to bring prosperity and progress to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. With such initiatives, the government continues to strengthen its efforts to uplift the nation’s infrastructure and improve the lives of its citizens.
