Kejriwal Government Allocates Third Instalment, Releases Over Rs 803 Crore for Municipal Corporation of Delhi
Responding to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s directives, Finance Minister Atishi greenlit the release of the third installment, amounting to Rs 803.69 crore, for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday. The move, part of the Kejriwal government’s commitment, reflects a substantial increase in funds for MCD compared to previous years.
Meteorical Rise in MCD Funding Under Kejriwal Government
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the allocation to MCD has witnessed a meteoric rise, reaching three times the 2014-15 allocation. In the fiscal year 2023-24, MCD received Rs 2642.47 Crore, a significant increase from Rs 854.5 Crore in 2014-15. This boost in funds is expected to ensure timely payments of salaries and pensions for MCD employees.
Kejriwal Government’s Commitment to Timely Payments and Clean Delhi
Atishi emphasized that the release of funds aims to guarantee timely payments to MCD employees, including sanitation workers, paramedical staff, and doctors. The move intends to motivate MCD workers to enhance public services. Atishi reiterated the Kejriwal government’s dedication to making Delhi clean, beautiful, and modern, fulfilling their promise of no shortage of funds for MCD.
Sharp Critique of Previous MCD Scenario and BJP’s Role
The Finance Minister criticized the previous scenario under the BJP-ruled MCD, highlighting delays in salary payments that led to forced strikes and difficulties for both employees and the public. Atishi credited the funds released by the Kejriwal government for ensuring timely salary payments, addressing past challenges. She underscored the government’s commitment to prioritize employees’ interests and uphold their timely compensation, particularly in sanitation services, contributing to a cleaner and garbage-free city.
