Police in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir have launched an investigation into a case involving a young girl who was reported missing and was later discovered to have converted and married a man from Mumbai.
The incident came to light after the girl’s father, Gh Mohi-ud-din Sheik, filed a missing person’s report at the Kreeri police station on August 16, 2024.
According to the police, the girl converted to a different religion and married Sagar Pradeep Singh, a resident of Navi Mumbai.
This development prompted the Baramulla district police to take swift action by registering a case under the relevant sections of the law. The details of the individuals involved have been withheld for privacy reasons.
In a statement, a police spokesperson confirmed that the matter is being handled with the seriousness it deserves. The police are investigating all aspects of the case to ensure that all legal procedures are followed appropriately.
The authorities have also issued a stern warning to social media users, cautioning them against spreading any misleading or inflammatory content related to the case.
Sharing such content, the police stated, is a violation of several laws and could lead to criminal proceedings. The public has been advised to refrain from posting or reposting any information about the incident.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful digital environment.
They urged anyone who has already shared or reposted such content to remove it immediately to avoid facing legal consequences.
