JK Police Busts Drug Network in Sopore, Arrests Three Traffickers
Jammu and Kashmir Police declared the dismantling of a drug network in the northern Kashmir town of Sopore, following the arrest of three drug traffickers. Dr. Raies Ahmed Mir, the Sub Divisional Police Officer in Sopore, provided details of the operation, stating that on January 11, a checkpoint was established at a railway crossing where a truck was intercepted. “During the inspection, 3600 capsules of Spasmoproxivon plus were discovered in a bag. The driver, identified as Rameez Wali Rather, son of Wali Mohammed Rather of Kralgund Handwara, revealed his identity during the investigation,” he reported.
Upon further interrogation, it was revealed that Rameez Wali Rather had handed over the consignment to Shahnawaz Ahmed Shah of Dangerpora Sopore. Shah was promptly apprehended by the police, and 744 Spasmoproxivon plus capsules were seized in the process, according to Dr. Raies Ahmed Mir.
The SDPO disclosed that, during questioning, Shah admitted to supplying a quantity of drugs to Shabir Ahmed, son of Abdul Rashid Mir of Kralgund Handwara. Subsequently, Shabir Ahmed was arrested in Dangerpora village, and 792 Spasmoproxivon plus capsules were confiscated.
Dr. Raies Ahmed Mir stated that a case has been registered in this regard, FIR No 04/2024 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act, at Police Station Amargrah, and ongoing investigations are being conducted. Emphasizing the commitment to combat drug-related crimes, he said, “We are intensifying efforts through a comprehensive approach, combining strict law enforcement measures with community engagement.”
