J&K LG Manoj Sinha Advocates for Inclusive Society on International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, at an event marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, reaffirmed the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s dedication to eradicating discrimination and fostering an inclusive, fair, and equitable society. The event, held at Abhinav Theatre, was organized by Kalpana Kala Kendra in association with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages; Jigar Jammu, and Anam Sneh Parivar Prayagraj.
Commitment to Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities
LG Sinha highlighted the administration’s commitment to the socio-economic empowerment of persons with disabilities and creating an environment that supports their dignity and independence. He acknowledged and felicitated individuals and institutions that have excelled in various sectors despite challenges, contributing significantly to the empowerment of Divyangjan (persons with disabilities).
Initiatives for Inclusion and Empowerment
The administration has undertaken various initiatives for the inclusion of Divyangjans. These include the implementation of the J&K Rights to Persons with Disabilities Rules, the appointment of a Disability Commissioner for focused attention, and registration with the National Trust to emphasize commitment to intellectual disabilities. Other steps mentioned by LG Sinha include recognizing 100% visual disability as a benchmark for the MTS post, increasing the number of benchmark disabilities for government posts, and a 200% increase in the distribution of retrofitted scooties.
Accessible Infrastructure and Support for Divyangjan
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance, efforts are underway to create accessible infrastructure for Divyangjan in government buildings and major public spaces. LG Sinha called on all society sections to support the J&K Administration’s efforts in integrating Divyangjan into mainstream society and ensuring their active participation in socio-economic activities with dignity.
Support for Entrepreneurial Ventures
The Lt Governor also assured that the administration would provide support and assistance to Persons with Disabilities in their entrepreneurial and business endeavors.
Book Release
On this occasion, LG Sinha released a book titled “Swarn Dhara,” marking a significant contribution to the discourse on disability and inclusion.
