Jharkhand CM Claims Centre Owes State Rs 1.36 Lakh Crore for Coal Mining

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has asserted that the Central government owes the state a substantial amount of Rs 1.36 lakh crore related to coal mining activities. Speaking at a public event, he highlighted the issue of unclaimed funds and accused the Centre of evasive tactics when approached about this outstanding amount.

The Centre’s Alleged Evasion and Unfulfilled Commitments

Soren raised concerns over the Central government’s alleged reluctance to release the owed funds. He criticized previous state administrations for their failure to pursue these financial dues actively. The Chief Minister accused the Centre of halting funds intended for housing projects for the poor and support for natural disasters like droughts, stating, “We are building this state on our own.”

Political Struggle and Rural Development Focus

In his address, Soren emphasized the necessity of a collective fight to claim Jharkhand’s rights. He accused the BJP of favoring the wealthy and selling off public assets, which he firmly opposed. Highlighting his government’s commitment to rural development, Soren mentioned a significant investment of around Rs 1,000 crore in developing rural roads in the Palamu district as part of the ‘government at doorstep’ initiative.
