    Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner and other officials, recently visited the construction site of the world’s highest steel arch rail bridge near Jyotipuram in the Reasi district. This monumental engineering marvel, nearing completion, promises to be a game-changer for the region and beyond.

    A Towering Achievement

    Standing at a staggering 359 meters in height, the bridge dwarfs the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris by 29 meters. During the inspection, Dr. Mehta was joined by engineers from the executing agency and Indian Railways officers, who highlighted the bridge’s unparalleled features and significance. This architectural wonder is a testament to the exceptional capabilities of our nation’s engineers and a source of inspiration for all.

    Unlocking Tourism Potential

    Dr. Mehta recognized the tourism potential of this site and urged the district administration to take immediate action in transforming it into a tourist attraction. The bridge’s location, nestled amidst nature’s beauty, provides an aesthetically pleasing backdrop that could captivate visitors. With minimal interventions, this spot could become a major draw for tourists.The Chief Secretary emphasized the need for improved road infrastructure to the bridge site, advocating for the installation of crash barriers where necessary. He also called for the immediate enhancement of the road connecting Katra and Reasi. Dr. Mehta noted that District Reasi already receives a substantial tourist influx, making it essential to tap into its potential further.

    Reasi’s Tourism Renaissance

    Dr. Mehta highlighted the district’s existing attractions, including the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, Shiv Khori, Salal Dam, and Bhimgarh Fort. He stressed the importance of developing these sites to put District Reasi on the national tourism map. Additionally, he suggested various measures to turn the district into a thriving tourism hub, generating employment opportunities for locals and residents of the union territory.

    The Chief Secretary called for a comprehensive plan to create tourist circuits within the district, focusing on improving amenities and connectivity between these places. This strategic approach aims to facilitate seamless movement for tourists and boost the region’s overall tourism potential.

    The Chenab River bridge, spanning 1,315 meters in length and towering 359 meters above the riverbed, will play a pivotal role in connecting the Kashmir Valley to India’s extensive railway network. With 38 tunnels and 931 bridges, totaling 13 kilometers in length, this 119-kilometer railway project is a monumental feat in the rugged Himalayan terrain. It promises to provide all-weather connectivity to the people of the region, unlocking new opportunities for growth and development.
