The Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized a residential house, a JCB, and a Tractor in the Degwar Terwan area near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district under section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985.
During a press conference, SSP Poonch Vinay Sharma disclosed that the residential house, owned by Shakar Din, son of Noor Din, a resident of Degwar Terwan in Tehsil Haveli in Poonch, and constructed on land with khasra number 400, was attached in connection with FIR number 42/2023 under Sections 8/21/22/25/27A/29/60 of the NDPS Act.

Simultaneously, a JCB 3DX with registration number JK12B-6168 and a Mahindra Tractor with registration number JK12C 4438, both belonging to Mohd Yaseen, son of Saif Din, a resident of Degwar Terwan, were attached under FIR number 77/2023 under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act, 13/18 of the UAPA Act, and 4/5 of the Explosives Act.
The operation to attach these properties was carried out by the J&K Police in the presence of Executive Magistrates, including Tehsildar Haveli Anjum Bashir Khatak and Naib Tehsildar Haveli Maroof Khan.SSP Vinay Sharma emphasized that this action marks the initiation of freezing the assets of drug dealers and peddlers. In Poonch, for the first time, a residential house, JCB, and tractor with a combined value of Rs 87.86 lakh were seized in Degwar-Terwan.
Earlier, a double-storey residential house and two personal vehicles (Alto and Tata Mobile) were attached in Surankote in a similar case.He asserted that the police have identified more properties linked to drug-related activities, and the crackdown will persist against drug peddlers and dealers.
Poonch police have already registered 47 FIRs under the NDPS Act, leading to the arrest of 83 individuals, and the recovery of 87 kgs of heroin this year.Regarding property seizures, SSP Vinay Sharma highlighted the need to go beyond merely arresting drug offenders.
The police have initiated the attachment of their properties, demonstrating a shift in strategy. In the recent operation, 24 kgs of heroin and 15 lakh in cash were recovered from the two property owners targeted.
This approach is part of a broader effort to address drug mafias that often evade traditional law enforcement measures.
