    Key Highlights:

    1. Islamabad court acquits Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in long march vandalism cases.
    2. PTI leaders Ali Mohammad Khan, Murad Saeed, and Asad Umar also acquitted.
    3. Insufficient evidence leads to acquittal of PTI leaders in multiple cases.

A district and sessions court in Islamabad acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and party leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in two cases related to long march vandalism, reported Geo News. Judicial Magistrate Ehtesham Alam issued the acquittal against petitions filed by Khan and Qureshi. PTI leaders Ali Mohammad Khan and Murad Saeed were also acquitted, while former PTI leader Asad Umar received relief in these cases registered at Golra Police Station.

This decision follows two weeks after Imran Khan and other PTI leaders were acquitted in similar cases from Kohsar and Karachi Company police stations for violating Section 144. On May 20, leaders such as Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Qasim Suri, Raja Khurram Nawaz, Shireen Mazari, and others were acquitted.

Further, on May 30, a district and sessions court in Islamabad acquitted Khan in two cases related to the May 9 riots. The court stated that “insufficient evidence” led to Khan’s acquittal. The cases against him were tied to long march activities and violations of Article 144.

Despite these acquittals, Imran Khan remains incarcerated in Adiala Jail since August 2023 due to other ongoing cases, notably the May 9 violence cases following his arrest. Additionally, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted bail to Khan on May 16 in the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement case, but he remains in jail due to other charges.

Khan also appeared before the Supreme Court (SC) in the National Accountability (NAB) Ordinance 1999 amendment case. The five-member SC bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, ensured Khan’s appearance via video link as per the court’s order.

These acquittals reflect ongoing legal battles for Khan and his party members amidst numerous allegations and cases.
