Iran readies for Offensive Military Shift as US Rejects Ceasefire Extension
TEHRAN, August 18, 2026 (VoM News) – Iran is readying to shift to “fully offensive” military operations after a permanent end to its war with the United States failed to materialize, according to a high-ranking Iranian official who spoke with Reuters.
According to the source, Iran might take an action to raise the tension stakes around the Strait of Hormuz and the rest of the region if diplomatic attempts falter. Iran “would not hesitate to execute a precise and timely military response” against the US naval blockade, the official stated.
A June memo had stipulated Iran and the US would have 60 days to forge an all-inclusive pact related to the nuclear program as well as the removal of US sanctions. It also called for an instant, permanent halt to hostilities but went sour on disagreements surrounding governance of the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump declared Monday Washington would not pursue extending the transitional pact.
The agency added efforts to maintain side channels with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps are ongoing. Trump special adviser Jared Kushner reportedly commented dialogue between Washington and sundry Iran administration officials has deepened.
Iran has likewise engaged in separate dialogue with Oman concerning rules to regulate the flow of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, but Trump had warned Oman against encroaching upon the US interests.
