Iran Accuses Germany of Shifting Position on US-Israeli Military Actions; Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei Issues Remark
TEHRAN, October 25, 2026 [VoM News]: Over the Germany’s position on Iran, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei made the stern remarks.
Esmaeil Baghaei has criticised what he described as a change in Germany’s position on US and Israeli military actions against Iran.
In a post on X, Baghaei recalled German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s remarks in June 2025, when he described Israel’s military campaign against Iran as “the dirty work Israel is doing for all of us”.
Baghaei contrasted the statement with Germany’s more recent calls for restraint and diplomatic engagement. He pointed to a meeting in Istanbul where the German foreign minister and other European officials reportedly warned against renewed attacks on Iran and stressed the need to prevent further escalation.
The Iranian spokesperson used the contrast to question the consistency of Berlin’s approach to the conflict, highlighting the difference between its earlier response to Israel’s campaign and its current emphasis on avoiding further military action.
Baghaei also referenced Friedrich Schiller’s play The Maid of Orleans, quoting a passage depicting reason being dragged towards an abyss by forces of madness.
His remarks come amid wider diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East, as European officials urge dialogue between Washington and Tehran. Germany’s recent calls for restraint have drawn attention to the evolving diplomatic positions of European governments as tensions over Iran continue.
