Indians Stranded Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict: Operation Ajay Airlift Commences
In a significant development, the first flight aimed at repatriating Indians stranded amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict is set to depart from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport tonight. A substantial number of those registering with the Indian embassy for the flight include Indian students studying at various institutions in Israel. These students have received a communication notifying them of the Ministry of External Affairs’ plans to organize a chartered flight from Tel Aviv to Delhi. The flight is scheduled to depart from Ben Gurion airport at around 9 pm Israel time today.
Indian students seeking to return have been instructed to complete a Google form, following which they will receive a confirmation message. The communication also specifies that passengers are allowed one checked-in luggage weighing up to 23 kg and one cabin luggage.
Operation Ajay: India’s Commitment to Safety
As the fighting in the Gaza region escalates, with the death toll nearing 4,000, the Indian government has initiated “Operation Ajay” to facilitate the safe return of Indian citizens from Israel. Dr. S Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister, expressed India’s dedication to the safety and well-being of its nationals abroad, stating, “Launching #OperationAjay to facilitate the return from Israel of our citizens who wish to return. Special charter flights and other arrangements being put in place.” The Indian Embassy in Israel has set up round-the-clock helplines to assist those stranded amid the conflict.
Embassy’s Assurance and Support
The Indian Embassy in Israel has been actively engaged in helping Indian citizens, with a 24-hour helpline in operation. They have urged people to remain calm, follow security advisories, and stay vigilant. The embassy also reported that they have informed the first group of Indians who will be flying back, and they reassure others who have registered for the flights that they will be contacted soon.
