Indian Rupee Slips 6 Paise Against USD on Importer Demand and Equities Dip
The Indian rupee concluded its trading session 6 paise lower against the US dollar on Monday, influenced by heightened demand for the dollar from importers and a decline in the domestic stock market.
Closing at 83.06 a dollar in comparison to its previous closure at 83.00, the rupee faced this downward trend due to multiple factors affecting the financial landscape.
Amid the session, the local unit surged to 82.9150, marking its highest level since September 22.
This rise was attributed to the weakened dollar against major global currencies and sustained investments made by foreign entities, offering support to the local currency, as observed by forex traders.
In the prior session, the rupee demonstrated a notable leap of 33 paise, settling at 83.00 against the dollar, representing its most substantial single-day gain in over eight months.
Amit Pabari, the managing director at FX advisory firm CR Forex, noted, “It appears that volatility has made a strong comeback in this currency pair. However, with the approaching global market holiday period, the market might encounter a slowdown in momentum.”
Despite the recent fluctuations, the rupee’s trajectory was influenced by a blend of factors, showcasing the currency’s responsiveness to importer demands and the performance of the domestic equities market.
6These elements underscored the nuanced dynamics shaping the rupee’s movement vis-à-vis the US dollar in the recent trading session.
