    Indian Railways and IRCTC Collaborate for ‘North East Discovery’ Tour

    The Ministry of Railways, in partnership with IRCTC Ltd, has unveiled an exciting initiative to explore the lesser-traveled North Eastern states of India. This special tour, known as ‘North East Discovery,’ is set to commence its journey from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station on November 16, 2023, offering an enchanting 15-day itinerary across the region.

    Highlights of the ‘North East Discovery’ Tour

    The ‘North East Discovery’ tour promises an immersive experience in the heart of India’s enchanting North Eastern states. The journey spans across a range of picturesque destinations, including Guwahati, Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Kaziranga in Assam, Unakoti, Agartala, and Udaipur in Tripura, Dimapur and Kohima in Nagaland, and Shillong and Cherrapunji in Meghalaya.

    Modern Comfort and Security on the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train

    Tourists will embark on this adventure aboard the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train, equipped with modern amenities. This fully air-conditioned train provides three types of accommodation: AC I, AC II, and AC III. Travelers can expect features such as two dining cars/restaurants, a contemporary kitchen, shower cubicles in AC I and AC II coaches, sensor-based washroom functions, a foot massager, and a mini library.

    Moreover, the train is designed with enhanced security measures, including CCTV cameras, electronic safes, and dedicated security guards appointed for each coach.

    Discovering the North East

    The tour commences in Guwahati, where visitors can explore the Kamakhya Temple, Umananda Temple, and enjoy a sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra River. It then continues to Naharlagun Railway Station, a gateway to Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh.

    The journey unfolds with visits to Sivasagar, known for its historical significance and sites like Shiva temple Sivadol, Talatal Ghar, and Rang Ghar. Travelers will also have the opportunity to experience the serene tea gardens in Jorhat and enjoy an overnight stay at Kaziranga, with an early morning jungle safari.

    The tour proceeds to Tripura, where guests can explore the heritage site of Unakoti and the capital city, Agartala. Highlights include the Ujjayanta Palace, Neermahal, and the Tripura Sundari Mandir at Udaipur.

    Moving on to Nagaland, the train takes tourists on a scenic journey between Badarpur station and Lumding Junction, offering breathtaking views. The visit to Kohima includes a tour of the Khonoma village to witness the Naga way of life.

    The tour’s final leg takes travelers from Guwahati to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. En route, there’s a pit stop at the magnificent Umium Lake. The journey continues with an excursion to Cherrapunji, known for its stunning natural beauty, including Shillong Peak, Elephant Falls, Nawkhalikai Falls, and Mawsmai caves.

    The tour concludes with a return journey to Delhi from Guwahati, covering a total distance of approximately 5800 km.

    This initiative aligns with the government’s “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” and “Dekho Apna Desh” campaigns, aiming to promote domestic tourism. The IRCTC tourist train offers a comprehensive 15-day package that includes train travel, hotel stays, meals, transfers, sightseeing, travel insurance, and tour escort services while ensuring the highest health and safety standards for all guests.
