    An Indian-origin student in Tasmania, Australia, is in a medically induced coma following an assault, with the suspect now facing criminal charges.

    The student, a master’s degree candidate at the University of Tasmania, suffered severe injuries, including ‘extradural bleeding’ and a collapsed lung, after the attack on November 5. This necessitated brain surgery and other medical interventions.

    Suspect Arrested and Charged

    Benjamin Dodge Collings, 25, was apprehended by the police shortly after the incident. He has been charged with criminal code assault, which carries a maximum sentence of 21 years. Collings is currently out on bail and is due to appear in court on December 4.

    University’s Response and Support

    The University of Tasmania is aware of the incident and has been actively supporting the student and his family. They have appointed a complex case manager and provided translation services, liaison, accommodation, and other necessary assistance.
