Indian Government Issues Hajj Policy for 2024
Union Minister Smriti Irani informed that the Indian Government has issued the Hajj policy for 2024, with the application form now available for those intending to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage. This announcement follows a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister for Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah.
Empowering Muslim Women Pilgrims
Highlighting a significant change, Irani noted that last year’s Hajj was particularly notable for Muslim women from India. More than 4,300 women completed the Hajj without a Mehram (male guardian), reflecting a remarkable shift in traditional practices. This change was also acknowledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, where he termed it a ‘huge transformation’.
The Indian Government’s dialogue with Saudi authorities also covered the security of women pilgrims and facilities for Divyang (differently-abled) travelers, emphasizing inclusivity and safety. The Government, led by Prime Minister Modi, is ensuring special arrangements for these groups to facilitate their participation in the pilgrimage.
Hajj: A Journey of Unity and Faith
The Hajj pilgrimage, a pivotal spiritual journey for Muslims worldwide, is held in high regard for its ability to unite believers from diverse backgrounds. It represents a journey of faith, forgiveness, and the equality of all before Allah. Every year, millions of Muslims converge in Mecca to perform rituals, transcending cultural and national differences and echoing a common purpose.
