India Tops ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Standings
India has surged to the top position in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 standings, displacing two-time finalists New Zealand, who slipped to number two after their Wellington defeat to Australia in the first Test. Before the Wellington Test, New Zealand held the top spot with 36 points in four games and a points percentage of 75.
Following their significant 172-run defeat, the 2021 WTC champions lost the top position, now at No.2 with a points percentage of 60, having won three and lost two matches. India, previously at the second spot with 62 points in 8 matches, claimed the leading position with a robust points percentage of 64.58. India has won five matches, lost two, and drawn one.
Australia solidified their number three position with a convincing win over New Zealand, propelled by Nathan Lyon’s six-wicket haul in the fourth innings on Day four. The defending champions gained 12 crucial points, elevating their tally from 66 to 78. Australia has won seven matches, lost three, and drawn one, with an increased points percentage from 55 to 59.09.
Australia has the opportunity to move up to the second spot if they win the second Test against New Zealand. Additionally, they could even claim the top spot if England beats India in the upcoming Dharamsala Test, starting from March 7.
The ongoing series between India and Australia has India leading 3-1 with one game remaining. The Trans-Tasman rivals will meet again in Christchurch for the final Test, set to commence on March 8. In the first Test, Nathan Lyon’s stellar performance, coupled with Australia’s strong batting display, secured a comprehensive victory over New Zealand, putting them in a favorable position in the ICC World Test Championship standings.
