Multiple Raids in UP and MP
The Income Tax Department launched raids at various locations linked to Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. The search operations are currently ongoing in several cities, including Lucknow, Rampur, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, and Sitapur. These raids are reportedly related to the Al Jauhar Trust.
Wide-Scale Investigation
Income tax officials conducted searches at approximately 30 premises in both Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh as part of a tax evasion investigation targeting Azam Khan.
Diverse Range of Targets
As part of the agency’s actions against Azam Khan, the Regency Public School and Regency Institute of Management & Technology in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, were subjected to raids. Additionally, the residence of Advocate Mushtaq Ahmed Siddiqui in Lucknow came under the IT department’s radar in connection with the same case.
Political Responses
Samajwadi MP Ram Gopal Yadav expressed his opinion on the matter, suggesting that the actions taken from Delhi may be driven by desperation. He mentioned that numerous false cases had been filed against Azam Khan at the behest of the Uttar Pradesh government. Yadav also questioned the necessity of conducting Income Tax raids at the residence of an individual like Azam Khan, whom he described as honest.
