Income Tax Raids on BRS MLA Nallamothu Bhaskar Rao in Telangana
The Income Tax department has initiated raids targeting Nallamothu Bhaskar Rao, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) candidate and sitting MLA from Miryalaguda in Telangana. The raids are currently being conducted at his office, residence, and properties of some close associates. These actions are part of the department’s increased scrutiny in the region.
Nallamothu Bhaskar Rao’s Political Background
Nallamothu Bhaskar Rao, a native of Shakapuram village in Nidamanoor Mandal, Nalgonda District, has been a significant political figure in Telangana. Elected as an MLA in 2014 in the newly formed state, he secured his position again in the 2018 elections. Rao has a history of political activism, having been involved in the Telangana Movement as early as 1969.
Recent Raids on Telangana Education Minister’s Relatives
The recent raids follow close on the heels of similar actions against relatives of Telangana Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy. The residence of Pradeep, allegedly a close relative of the minister, was searched by the Income Tax officials on November 13. Sabitha Reddy, representing the TRS (now BRS) from Maheshwaram in the 2023 Assembly elections, faces opposition from the Congress and BJP candidates.
Telangana’s Political Landscape Ahead of Elections
With Telangana’s assembly polls scheduled for November 30, the political atmosphere is tense. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi, formerly Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which dominated the 2018 elections with 88 seats, is gearing up for another electoral battle. The Congress remains a key contender, despite a distant second-place finish in the last election. Notably, two BJP MPs who had previously contested unsuccessfully in the Telangana Assembly polls have been sidelined for the upcoming elections.
