In-flight Mishap: Passenger Trapped in SpiceJet Aircraft Toilet for Over an Hour Due to Door Lock Malfunction
A SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru took an unexpected turn when a passenger found himself trapped in the aircraft’s toilet for over an hour. The incident occurred after the door lock malfunctioned, leaving the flier stuck during the airborne journey. The passenger, who had left his seat to use the restroom, became unwittingly confined to the cramped space for the duration of the flight.
Efforts to unlock the door from the outside by the crew proved futile, and it wasn’t until the plane landed in Bengaluru that an engineer successfully opened the door, rescuing the passenger. SpiceJet has issued an apology for the inconvenience caused and announced a full refund for the affected passenger’s airfare.
In a statement, the airline explained the situation, expressing regret for the incident. The crew reportedly provided assistance and guidance throughout the journey, ensuring the trapped passenger received immediate medical support upon landing.
A photograph of a handwritten note has gone viral, allegedly written by the crew and slipped under the locked bathroom door. The note reassures the passenger that rescue attempts were ongoing and urges them not to panic. However, the authenticity of the note has not been verified by NDTV.
This incident adds to a series of challenges faced by airline service providers recently. Winter conditions in north India have led to numerous flight delays, with passengers expressing dissatisfaction over communication and assistance. In another unfortunate event, a passenger attacked a pilot on an IndiGo flight due to delays. Air India also made headlines for a 17-hour delay, leaving passengers waiting on the runway for their journey to commence.
