Imran Khan News: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Holds Sit-In Outside Supreme Court as Family Awaits Medical Report

PTI Sit-In Yields Assurance as Imran Khan’s Medical Report to Be Shared With Family

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday announced that the family of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan would be provided a copy of his medical report, following a day-long sit-in staged by the party outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, addressing reporters outside the apex court, said the protest was driven by serious concerns over Imran Khan’s health. He was joined by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Senate opposition leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas. Raja noted that PTI lawmakers also participated in the demonstration, while a similar sit-in had been held outside Adiala jail the previous night, continuing until early Friday morning.

“There is nothing more important for us than Imran Khan Sahib’s health,” Raja said, adding that reports circulating about the former prime minister’s condition were “unsatisfactory.” He alleged that Imran Khan had been taken to hospital without informing his family and accused authorities of misleading statements over the incident.

The protest followed confirmation by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar that Imran Khan underwent treatment for an eye ailment at Islamabad’s Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on the night of January 24. According to officials, the procedure lasted around 20 minutes.

Raja said he remained in contact throughout the day with the chief justice, court staff and the attorney general, but described the outcome as only partially satisfactory. He said Imran Khan’s medical records, including reports from PIMS and previous jail medical examinations, would be handed over to Imran in a sealed envelope, with copies provided to his sisters. “Once the family reviews the report, they will decide whether the medical treatment being given is satisfactory,” he said, adding that future treatment decisions would rest with the family.

Maintaining that Imran Khan’s detention was wrongful, Raja said PTI would continue protests to secure visitation rights and transparency regarding his health. He also announced consultations with Senate opposition leader Raja Nasir Abbas and National Assembly opposition leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai to chart the party’s next course of action.

However, no immediate strategy was finalised after PTI leaders met representatives of the Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP). In a later video statement, Achakzai termed the health controversy a “diversion” from a nationwide protest planned for February 8, claiming Imran Khan’s condition was not as serious as being portrayed and urging supporters to stay focused on mobilisation.

Earlier, PTI workers and leaders camped outside the Supreme Court, with Chief Minister Afridi arriving after leading an overnight sit-in at Adiala jail. Afridi said the nation was deeply concerned about Imran Khan’s health and claimed efforts were underway to arrange a meeting between the former premier and his personal doctors. He also alleged prolonged delays in the listing of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s cases, asserting that their release would follow swiftly if justice was delivered.

Separately, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and senior leader Babar Awan reiterated that the party’s sole concern was Imran Khan’s health. They demanded that doctors from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital be allowed to examine him and warned of “grave consequences” if his medical report was not made public, according to Dawn.
