Illegal Mining in North Kashmir: 51 Arrested, 51 Vehicles Seized
In their continuous effort to combat illegal mining in Baramulla, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have reported the registration of 30 cases and the apprehension of 51 individuals involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals within the first two months of 2024.
Furthermore, law enforcement authorities have confiscated a total of 51 vehicles, comprising 19 tippers, 31 tractors, and an excavator, which were utilized in the unlawful transportation of minerals from various locations within the district. Baramulla Police, working in conjunction with the Mineral Department, has successfully imposed fines amounting to lakhs of rupees for violations related to the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in the region.

Expressing their dedication to addressing the issue, a police spokesperson emphasized, “The police are determined to take stringent action against those who exploit the cover of night hours to engage in the illegal extraction of minerals. Such activities not only jeopardize public health and the local ecology but also impact the government’s revenue.”
