Historic Islamic Library in Anantnag Destroyed by Fire
SRINAGAR: In a recent fire incident, the historic library at Islamic Research Institute Anantnag, containing hundreds of rare books, was reduced to ashes, leaving the community in shock and mourning. The library, renowned for its extensive collection of rare books spanning various genres and eras, had served as a beacon of knowledge for decades.
Its destruction has dealt a severe blow to the preservation of local history and literature.Noted preacher and Principal of Islamic Research Institute, commonly known as Idara Tahqeeqat-e-Islami, Moulana Irshad Hydari Attari, said that the loss of these irreplaceable books has created a void in the community, emphasising the importance of safeguarding our heritage for future generations.
He said that there were around 100,000 books in the library, but they couldn’t save even a single page, as all the books were reduced to ashes. He further mentioned that hundreds of books available exclusively in this library were now lost forever.
Moulana mentioned that the Islamic research institute, established around 1984, has incurred a loss of around one crore, with the third storey completely damaged. He appealed to the general public to donate generously for the reconstruction of the Idara of Late Qazi Nisar Ahmad.”
