Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently engaged in a significant meeting with New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Winston Peters, on Monday. Peters, who arrived in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on an official visit, has been in India from March 10 to 13 at the invitation of External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar, according to a press release by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Deputy Prime Minister Peters’ visit holds special importance as it marks his first visit to India since the new government in New Zealand assumed office in November 2023. Notably, Peters had previously visited India in February 2020 during his tenure as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel:Bilateral Talks and Schedule
In Ahmedabad, Deputy Prime Minister Peters is anticipated to meet the political leadership of Gujarat, strengthening ties between the two regions. Moving to New Delhi, EAM and Deputy Prime Minister Peters are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on March 12, 2024. This meeting is expected to delve into various aspects of the bilateral relationship, covering areas such as trade, defense, education, and more.
During his official visit, Deputy Prime Minister Peters is also set to have meetings with other dignitaries, highlighting the significance of diplomatic engagements between India and New Zealand.

India and New Zealand share warm and friendly relations, grounded in democratic traditions and shared values. The relationship is further fortified by robust people-to-people ties. Established in 1952, bilateral relations between the two nations continue to evolve positively.
Cooperation spans various sectors, including trade and economy, defense and security, education and research, as well as environment and climate change. The MEA release concludes by emphasizing the strategic importance of India for New Zealand, highlighted in its “Opening Doors to India” policy declared in October 2011 and reiterated in 2015. This underscores the commitment of both nations to nurturing and expanding their collaborative efforts for mutual benefit.
