Gajwel Assembly Constituency in Focus as Nomination Scrutiny Ends
The Gajwel Assembly segment has become a focal point in the upcoming elections, with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao contesting from this constituency. Following the completion of the scrutiny process on Tuesday, the returning officers have declared 114 out of 145 nomination papers filed for Gajwel valid. Of note, 35 sets of nomination papers were rejected, but BJP candidate and former minister Eatala Rajender’s papers were approved.
Eatala Rajender’s Dual Contention
Rajender, who had previously won the Huzurabad seat in the 2021 byelection on a BJP ticket, is also contesting from Huzurabad after his departure from TRS (now BRS). His nomination papers for both constituencies have been found in order, setting the stage for a significant electoral battle.
Nomination Status in Other Constituencies
In Kamareddy, another constituency where KCR is a candidate, 58 out of 92 nomination sets were deemed valid. Here, KCR faces competition from TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy. Additionally, in other constituencies like Medchal, LB Nagar, Serilingampally, Munugode, and Sircilla, a significant number of nominations were accepted, indicating a competitive election landscape.
Statewide Nomination Overview
Across the state’s 119 Assembly constituencies, 2,898 nominations have been validated, while 606 were rejected. A total of 4,798 candidates had filed 5,716 sets of nominations. The deadline for withdrawal of candidatures is November 15, with voting scheduled for November 30 and vote counting on December 3, 2023.
Political Parties’ Election Strategies
The BRS is contesting all 119 seats, with the Congress reserving one seat for its ally CPI. The BJP is contesting 111 seats and has allied with the Jana Sena Party for the remaining seats. Meanwhile, AIMIM is fielding candidates in nine seats and supporting BRS in the others.
Notable Rejections and Acceptances
In a notable development, veteran Congress leader K Jana Reddy’s nomination papers for the Nagarjuna Sagar seat were rejected, while his son Jaiveer Reddy’s papers were accepted. Additionally, the nomination papers filed by Rajender’s wife Eatala Jamuna were rejected in both Huzurabad and Gajwel.
