Following the Mecca Defense Agreement, Pakistan Calls for Creation of an ‘Islamic NATO’

Islamabad, Aug. 9 [VoM News]: After the historic Mecca Defense Agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, a Pakistani minister has called for the creation of an “Islamic NATO.”

Calling India and Israel a threat, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stressed the need for a broader Islamic NATO.

Following the signing of the agreement, all three countries would be committed to collective defence, under which an attack on one member would be treated as an attack on all.

Further adding, Khawaja Asif described terrorism as a common security challenge for all.

He urged Muslim-majority countries to establish a wider defence alliance modelled on NATO to strengthen regional security cooperation.

India has consistently maintained its clear stance, rejecting Pakistan’s allegations of supporting terrorism.

Regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, Asif said there should be greater coordination among Muslim nations, stating that support for the Palestinian cause should remain a central element of regional policy.

So far, no other Muslim nation has endorsed the agreement.

However, Iran has reacted by saying that such an agreement could not save Saudi Arabia from attacks during the Iran-US conflict.
