Foiled Rescue Attempt Ends in Fatal Clash on Sonora Highway

A foiled attempt to rescue the son of a cartel hitman led to a deadly clash on a highway near Hermosillo, Sonora. At least 12 suspected criminals were killed, while seven others escaped. The incident occurred during an attempt to free Carlos Humberto, the son of Jesus Humberto Limon, associated with a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. Limon is a suspected hitman linked to the sons of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Government agents repelled the attack on a highway connecting Hermosillo to Bahia de Kino, recovering weapons and arresting Carlos Humberto.

Crossfire Injures Two Security Officials

During the crossfire, two security officials were injured and subsequently hospitalized. The armed group, equipped with assault weapons, targeted government agents, leading to a violent confrontation. The state attorney’s office suspects the assailants intended to rescue Carlos Humberto, detained for “crimes against health.” The incident underscores the challenges posed by criminal organizations in the region and the dangers faced by law enforcement in their efforts to combat organized crime.

Recovery of Weapons and Equipment

Security forces successfully repelled the attack, recovering 21 assault weapons, including AR-15s and AK-47s, bulletproof vests, camouflage kits, modern vans, and a substantial quantity of ammunition. The clash highlights the ongoing struggle between law enforcement and criminal groups in Mexico, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to curb violence and maintain public safety.
