In a recent incident, flash floods triggered by heavy rains resulted in the washing away of a culvert on the Jammu-Rajouri highway. Authorities were prompted to take immediate action to manage the situation and divert traffic.
Culvert Damage Due to Heavy Rains
The incident occurred at the Rajal Top area in Nowshera, where a temporary culvert on the highway was washed away during a bout of heavy rainfall late on Thursday night. As a consequence of this, a significant number of vehicles found themselves stranded on the highway from the following morning.
Ongoing Bridge Construction
Officials revealed that construction work for a bridge on the highway at Rajal Top in Nowshera had been underway for the past month. To facilitate the movement of vehicles during this construction phase, a temporary culvert had been constructed.
Traffic Diversions Implemented
In response to the washed-out culvert, Divisional Traffic Inspector Ajaz Mirza announced that traffic diversions were put in place. Heavy vehicles and passenger vehicles were rerouted from Siot towards Kalakote-Rajouri, while private and light motor vehicles were directed from Nowshera bridge to the Beri Pattan Sunderbani road.
Restoration Efforts Underway
Efforts to restore the highway are actively underway, with authorities working diligently to address the situation. The prompt response and traffic diversions are essential to ensuring the safety and mobility of travelers in the affected region.
