India-born entrepreneur Firdaus Kharas has been honored as an officer of the Order of Canada, a prestigious recognition in the country, for his remarkable contribution to social change through human-centred media. Announced by Governor General Mary Simon, this distinction acknowledges individuals making extraordinary and sustained impacts across various sectors in Canada.

At 68, Kharas is celebrated for his pioneering efforts as a social entrepreneur, humanitarian, and mass communications media producer, earning the appointment for his role in advancing social change through impactful media. Expressing his gratitude, Kharas conveyed, “I am deeply moved to receive this high honour, which is especially meaningful to me as an immigrant.”

Founder of Chocolate Moose Media, Kharas established this social enterprise in 1995 to harness mass communication for the betterment of humanity. His works, reaching over a billion viewers globally, have made a substantial impact, spanning across 198 countries, including diverse languages in India. His extensive contributions have garnered 125 awards, including the prestigious Peabody Award, alongside multiple honorary doctorates from universities.

In recognition of his remarkable achievements, Kharas and other appointees will be invited to an investiture ceremony at a later date to receive their insignia, with further details to be announced soon. This honour signifies the impactful and transformative power of media in advancing social causes and bringing about meaningful change on a global scale.
