Fair Price Shop Dealer Arrested for Accepting Bribe in Kulgam
Srinagar, July 09: The J&K Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has apprehended Ajaz Ahmad Malik, a Fair Price Shop Dealer from Pati Bongam, Kulgam, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹4000.
Malik, son of Nazir Ahmad Malik and a resident of Khuri Batpora, Kulgam, allegedly solicited the bribe in exchange for releasing ration and completing the Know Your Customer (KYC) process, as stated in an official press release.
Complainant Denied Ration Without Bribe
According to the complaint, Malik had been withholding the complainant’s monthly ration under the pretext of needing to submit KYC documents. Despite multiple attempts by the complainant to resolve the issue, Malik resorted to delaying tactics and ultimately demanded a bribe of ₹7500.
The complainant managed to gather ₹4000 and subsequently approached the ACB for intervention.
Successful Trap and Arrest
Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB registered Case FIR No. 03/2024 under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at ACB Police Station Anantnag and commenced an investigation. A trap team was formed and successfully caught Malik red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the ₹4000 bribe from the complainant.
The bribe money was recovered from Malik’s possession in the presence of independent witnesses. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and further details.
The ACB’s swift action underscores its commitment to combating corruption and ensuring fair practices in the distribution of essential supplies.
The arrest serves as a warning to others engaged in similar activities, reinforcing the importance of integrity and transparency in public service.
