Ruthless Extortion Plot Unveiled
In a significant breakthrough, the Punjab Police’s State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) has uncovered a nefarious extortion racket allegedly orchestrated by the notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. This criminal network, which terrorized the business community and influential individuals in Punjab and neighboring states, was exposed with the arrest of two key operatives.
Arrested Operatives and Seized Firearms
The individuals apprehended in connection with this illicit operation have been identified as Tarlochan Singh, also known as Rahul Cheema, hailing from Sector 26 in Chandigarh, and Harish, alias Harry or Baba, a resident of Bupania village in Jhajjar district, Haryana. During the operation, the police confiscated two .32 bore pistols, accompanied by two live cartridges, from the possession of these culprits.
A Web of Deceit and Radicalization
AIG SSOC SAS Nagar, Ashwani Kapur, shed light on the investigation, stating, “We received intelligence-based inputs suggesting that certain members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang were making menacing threats and extortion demands from businessmen and influential figures across Punjab and its neighboring regions. Additionally, they were allegedly planning targeted assassinations in the area.”
Swift and proactive measures were taken by the SSOC SAS Nagar, resulting in the apprehension of Tarlochan Singh, who was found in possession of one pistol and two live cartridges on Monday. This was followed by the arrest of Harish alias Harry, who was discovered with another pistol on Tuesday.
Kapur further elaborated, revealing that preliminary investigations unveiled a disturbing motive behind the arrested individuals’ actions. Both Tarlochan Singh and Harish were driven by a desire for notoriety, resorting to the creation of profiles on various social media platforms where they flaunted firearms and ammunition to entice and radicalize impressionable youth. Their modus operandi included promising these young recruits a high-profile lifestyle and a substantial monetary reward in exchange for their involvement in the gang’s operations.
The Ongoing Pursuit
SSOC has successfully secured a three-day police remand for both suspects after presenting them in the local court. The investigation is far from over, as law enforcement authorities are diligently working to identify and apprehend other members affiliated with this criminal module.
