Srinagar, Oct 7 (KNO): Awami Itehad Party (AIP) chief and North Kashmir MP, Er Sheikh Abdur Rashid, has urged political parties and independents expected to win the upcoming elections to postpone government formation until the Government of India restores Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. He emphasized that AIP would fully support such a move if parties unite on this stand.

Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, Rashid remarked, “I suggest that all winning political parties and independents put government formation on hold until the Centre reinstates statehood to J&K.” He reiterated that AIP’s priority is safeguarding the region’s interests over political power.

Rashid also advocated for the reinstatement of the traditional Darbar Move, a biannual transfer of the administrative offices between Jammu and Srinagar, which was recently abolished.

“The government claims cost savings, but people in both regions are suffering. The practice should be resumed,” he said.

Furthermore, Rashid questioned the distribution of J&K’s properties in Delhi, specifically J&K House being reserved for Ladakh’s residents. He expressed concerns over how such decisions were made without considering the larger population of Jammu and Kashmir.

On the prospect of supporting a particular party if BJP wins in Jammu and National Conference in Kashmir, Rashid clarified that AIP’s focus remains on protecting J&K’s interests, not forming a government.

He also criticized the J&K administration for nominating its own members to the assembly before the election results were announced.
