Enhanced Aerial Surveillance for the Indian Army
The Indian Army is set to significantly upgrade its surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities with the recent induction of the advanced Heron Mark-2 drones and the upcoming inclusion of the Hermes-900 drones. This strategic move is anticipated to transform reconnaissance operations and bolster the overall combat proficiency of the forces.
Synergy with Combat Helicopters
The integration of the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) such as Heron MK II and the planned Hermes 900 Starliners extends beyond surveillance. When teamed with combat helicopters, these drones have the potential to revolutionize aerial combat, providing a multi-dimensional approach to modern warfare.
Army Aviation: A Force Multiplier
The acquisition of these state-of-the-art remotely piloted aircraft not only enhances the Army’s surveillance reach but also amplifies its strike capabilities. Army Aviation has evolved into a significant force multiplier, adept at operating within the Combined Combat Teams framework and performing diverse operational tasks across India’s challenging terrain.
Women Officers Taking Flight in Army Aviation
In a commendable progression towards gender inclusivity, the role of women officers in Army Aviation has been continuously expanding. Starting from their induction into the Air Traffic Control stream in 2009 to their current involvement as Engineering Officers, women have been excelling alongside their male counterparts in maintaining and servicing the aviation units. The natural next step has been to welcome women officers as Army Aviators, with two already serving as pilots and three more in training.
