Elon Musk’s X Expands Community Notes Contributor Positions to India

X, formerly known as Twitter, has extended its Community Notes contributor program to India, allowing Indian users to apply to moderate and review posts for misinformation. This open-source moderation tool, introduced in November 2022, now includes contributors from 69 countries, with India being the latest addition.

To become a Community Notes contributor, users must meet certain eligibility criteria, including having a verified phone number from a trusted carrier, no recent platform rules violations, and not being associated with other Community Notes accounts. Once approved, contributors can rate and review Community Notes for helpfulness, potentially advancing to write notes themselves based on their accuracy and consistency.

Formerly known as Birdwatch, this initiative was rebranded and made open-source after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. Community Notes aims to combat misinformation by allowing users to rate and review posts independently. The platform publishes all Community Notes data daily for transparency and inspection.
