The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been activated by the Election Commission of India following the announcement of election dates for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has urged all political entities to strictly adhere to the code.

Code of Conduct Details

The MCC outlines strict guidelines for political conduct, emphasizing the avoidance of activities that could incite division among communities. It covers various aspects such as general conduct, campaigning, and the use of government resources.

Ensuring Fairness

To ensure fairness, the MCC prohibits corrupt practices like voter bribery and intimidation. It also prohibits the use of government resources for campaigning purposes and mandates equal access to public facilities for all parties.

The Election Commission derives its authority from Article 324 of the Constitution, which mandates free and fair elections. Under the MCC, manifesto releases are regulated, and criticism of opponents is to be focused on policies and public records, avoiding personal attacks or communal appeals.
