Duleep Trophy: Jammu Kashmir’s Left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq Records Five-Wicket Haul against West Zone
BENGALURU, AUG. 26, 2026 [VoM News]: Jammu and Kashmir’s left-arm spinner, Abid Mushtaq registered a five-wicket haul to put North Zone in a commanding position against West Zone in the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
Abid grabbed 5 wickets for 39 runs to skittle West Zone out for 187 runs in 65.4 overs, a lead of 64 runs first innings for North Zone. North Zone had ended the day on 107/4 to stretch the overall lead to 171 runs.
A good usage of the red soil from the 29-year old spinner, who kept a nice line to the stumps, three of his five victims were adjudged LBW. Abid was also on a hat-trick dismissing both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Urvil Patel in the same over. On the previous evening he had also removed Prithvi Shaw.
“I always look to bowl at the stumps as there is lot of help over here from the wicket. Always looking to keep the ball in a good area, don’t want to leak runs” said Abid Mushtaq.
During West zone’s innings, the 107/7 mark reached by Musheer Khan’s 31 along with Shams Mulani’s half century of 52, was followed by both batsmen dismissed and then a 63-run partnership that took West zone past 150.
Following that again Abid cleaned up Tushar Deshpande for 18, to pick up a 5-wicket bag, meanwhile Arshdeep Singh picked up 3 wickets for 53 runs, Anshul Kamboj added 2 wickets to the North Zone’s tally adding 2 wickets of 38 runs.
This fifer was a good sign, considering Abid has registered 63 wickets over the last three seasons of Ranji trophy, and he was also invited for his exceptional form to bowl in the Australian net team during the 2023 Border Gavaskar trophy at India.
