Doda Police Prevents Suicide Attempt, Rescues Woman and Two Children
Doda, September 6, 2025: In a swift and compassionate intervention, Doda Police averted a tragic incident by rescuing a woman and her two children who were about to jump into the Chenab River. Acting on timely information, a team from Police Station Doda, led by the SHO, rushed to the spot and successfully prevented the suicide attempt, thereby saving three precious lives.
The woman has been identified as Shamima Akhter, wife of Irfan Ahmed and resident of Golibagh, Doda. She was subsequently handed over to the Women Police Station Doda for counseling and necessary legal assistance.
This prompt action underscores the crucial role of law enforcement in protecting vulnerable individuals during moments of crisis. To support women and girls in distress, Doda Police have established Women Help Desks at every police station, in addition to a dedicated Women Police Station, ensuring accessible avenues for counseling, assistance, and legal recourse.

Speaking on the matter, SSP Doda Sh. Sandeep Mehta-JKPS urged women facing domestic disputes or other difficulties to approach the Women Help Centers, already functional across all police stations, instead of resorting to extreme steps. He reiterated that help and support are always available.
Doda Police appeal to the community to remain vigilant and encourage individuals in distress to seek timely assistance. No one is ever alone in their struggles—through awareness, compassion, and collective effort, a safer and more supportive society can be built for all.
