Democrats Can Hold Trump Accountable Says, US Senator Bernie Sanders, Trump Vows To Work With Democrats
WASHINGTON, November 5, 2026 (VoM News): US Senator Bernie Sanders has welcomed a series of victories by progressive candidates in the congressional elections, describing the results as a rejection of oligarchy and a mandate to prioritise working-class interests.
In a post on X, Sanders congratulated candidates who won races for the US Senate and House of Representatives, including Abdul El-Sayed of Michigan, Peggy Flanagan of Minnesota and Troy Jackson of Maine.
He also named several House candidates, among them Bob Brooks, Rebecca Cooke, Sam Forstag, Adam Hamawy, Melat Kiros, Brad Lander, Will Lawrence, Donavan McKinney, Brian Poindexter, Analilia Mejía, Claire Valdez, Randy Villegas and Aisha Wahab.
“Last night saw some of the greatest progressive victories in modern American history,” Sanders wrote, adding that voters in rural and urban communities had said no to oligarchy and supported an agenda focused on working families.
Sanders said Democrats would now control both the House and Senate, giving them the ability to hold President Donald Trump accountable. He also called for stronger action to address income and wealth inequality, arguing that elected representatives must do more for working families.
A day before the election, Sanders had urged voters to support candidates willing to challenge billionaire influence and defend workers’ interests. On Election Day, he also called for an end to Republican control of Congress.
Meanwhile, Trump told CNBC correspondent Eamon Javers that he believed he could work with Democrats on several issues, including trade. Referring to his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump claimed that he and Sanders were “identical on trade” and said many Sanders supporters had backed him after the senator withdrew from the race.
The US Trade Representative’s official X account responded to the remarks, stating that reindustrialising America had always been a bipartisan goal.
