Indian bowler Deepak Chahar recently appealed to media personnel to rally behind athletes, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young talent. Chahar, who debuted for India in T20Is against England in July 2018, has since made significant strides in his cricketing career, securing 31 wickets in 25 matches in the format. Chahar’s Plea for Media Support
Addressing the Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists’ Association Annual Awards & Scholarships event, Chahar expressed gratitude for media support and urged journalists not to disparage young athletes. “Seeing Media journalists supporting athletes is very different for me… I request the media to support athletes. Athletes shouldn’t be put down when they are young,” Chahar emphasized, underlining the need for constructive encouragement.
Consistent Performance in IPL
Chahar’s prowess extends beyond international cricket to the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he debuted in 2016. With 72 wickets in 73 matches, including an impressive performance in IPL 2023, where he secured 13 wickets in 10 games for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Chahar has been a consistent performer. As CSK gears up for IPL 2024, commencing their campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22, Chahar remains a pivotal asset in their bowling arsenal.
