DC Doda Addresses Winter Preparedness for District’s Vibrancy
Deputy Commissioner Doda, Vishesh Mahajan, has initiated discussions to tackle winter challenges and ensure the district’s vibrancy during the upcoming season. The meeting brought together stakeholders to address problems faced by residents, especially in far-flung areas where snow and natural factors can disrupt daily life.
To maintain the same vibrancy during winter, Mahajan urged stakeholders to keep all roads open, ensure water and electricity supply, promptly clear snow, and make essential items like food and LPG readily available throughout the district. He instructed relevant departments to keep their workforce and machinery prepared to handle any situation and provide seamless services across the district.
Ensuring Uninterrupted Power Supply and Water
The Power Development Department (PDD) was tasked with issuing a curtailment schedule and ensuring uninterrupted power supply. Engineers were instructed to have a sufficient buffer stock of transformers, poles, and equipment to restore power within 24 hours. Mahajan also emphasized the need to prevent the use and sale of banned heating gadgets.
The State Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), RP Gupta, was directed to maintain all roads and keep them open during winter. The Jal Shakti department was instructed to provide safe and proper water supply to every household.
Healthcare and Pregnant Women’s Well-being
Regarding healthcare facilities, health officials were urged to ensure an adequate stock of essential medicines in all health institutions. They were also asked to ensure the availability of doctors and paramedics, particularly in remote areas. Mahajan emphasized the importance of monitoring pregnant women, contacting them regularly, and ensuring they receive necessary vaccinations and medications during pregnancy. Institutional delivery under proper guidance was also encouraged.
Coordinated Efforts and Avalanche Warnings
Deputy Commissioner Doda stressed the need for coordinated efforts from all stakeholders to create a comprehensive snow clearance plan and restore essential services in the district. Machinery should be available at strategic locations to clear roads during snowfall and slides. Advance avalanche warnings for hilly areas were suggested to prevent property damage and loss of life.
Mahajan urged departments to review their past performance, identify shortcomings, and collaborate on a comprehensive winter preparedness plan to keep the district vibrant and operational.
