Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court has ordered the ‘framing of charges’ against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in a sexual harassment case involving six women wrestlers. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot, while ordering charges against Singh, cited sufficient material to proceed with the allegations involving five women wrestlers. The court listed the matter for the official framing of charges on May 21, 2024.
While Singh was acquitted of sexual harassment charges levelled by the sixth woman wrestler, he faces charges under section 506 based on allegations by two women. Additionally, charges for criminal intimidation and using force to outrage women’s modesty were framed against Singh.
The Delhi Court also ordered charges framed against ex-WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar under Section 506 for sexual harassment in the case. Earlier, Singh had sought a direction to place on record the CDR of coach Vijender concerning an alleged incident at the WFI office, claiming he was not in Delhi on the said date. The Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet against Singh on June 15 under sections 354, 354A, 354D, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
