Palghar, Maharashtra – In a shocking turn of events, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has initiated legal proceedings against an official from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The official stands accused of allegedly demanding bribes from a dedicated surgeon. This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the persistent issue of corruption in government institutions.
A Medical Mission Marred by Corruption
The surgeon in question had obtained the necessary permissions to conduct health check-ups of employees working in various factories and units across Palghar district. These check-ups were vital for ensuring the well-being of workers and issuing medical certificates when necessary. Deputy Superintendent of Police at Palghar ACB, Dayanand Gawde, disclosed that the accused official had demanded an astonishing ₹50 for each individual medically examined between November 2022 and June 2023. The total sum demanded amounted to ₹31,500, reflecting examinations conducted on 630 individuals during this period. Furthermore, the surgeon was informed that if he wished to continue his work unhindered, he would need to comply with these demands.
A Brave Whistleblower Emerges
Faced with an unethical and potentially illegal ultimatum, the surgeon decided to take a stand against corruption. He bravely lodged a formal complaint with the Palghar ACB, initiating a process that would expose the alleged wrongdoing and hold the official accountable for his actions. This act of courage demonstrates the surgeon’s commitment to upholding integrity in public service.
Legal Ramifications Unfold
Following the surgeon’s complaint, the Palghar police swiftly moved into action, registering criminal offenses against the DISH official under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The legal proceedings are now underway, and investigators are diligently working to uncover the full extent of the alleged corruption.
Rooting Out Corruption for a Better Tomorrow
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against corruption in India. It emphasizes the need for strict vigilance and swift action against individuals who exploit their positions of power for personal gain. As the investigation progresses, it is hoped that justice will prevail, setting a precedent for transparency and accountability in government institutions.
