Controversial Russian General, Once Vocal Against Putin, Discovered Dead in Shocking Turn of Events
A prominent former Russian air commander, Lieutenant General Vladimir Sviridov, known for his candid criticism of President Vladimir Putin’s management of the air force, has been discovered dead at his residence in the Stavropol region. The incident, reported by Newsweek, reveals that Sviridov’s lifeless body was found alongside that of a woman, purportedly his wife. The authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding their deaths, and early reports from Russian news agency RIA Novosti suggest no signs of violent causes.
Concerns Over Pilot Training and Military Conditions
In a notable interview with Russian magazine Take Off, Lieutenant General Sviridov had expressed serious concerns about the inadequate training received by the country’s pilots. He emphasized that the average flight time for army pilots was far below the recommended 100 hours per year for optimal combat readiness, citing a figure of 25-30 hours. Moreover, Sviridov revealed the troubling practice of appointing insufficiently trained officers due to a lack of qualified personnel, a departure from the standards of the past.
A Storied Military Career Overshadowed by Challenges
Despite a storied military career that earned him the Order of the Red Star and the title of an honored pilot of Russia, Lieutenant General Sviridov was an outspoken critic of the living conditions provided to Russian pilots. He drew attention to the issues of low salaries and inadequate housing, urging President Putin to prioritize creating a conducive environment for young officers and all servicemen to carry out their duties effectively.
