In a significant address during the inaugural meeting of the reconstituted Congress Working Committee (CWC), Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed grave concerns about the “serious internal challenges” currently facing the country. He lamented that incidents of violence were tarnishing India’s image as a progressive and secular nation, and he accused the BJP of exacerbating these issues.
Immediate Need for Census and Caste Survey
Kharge underscored the urgent need for initiating the Census process along with a caste survey. He argued that these steps were essential to secure the right to health, education, employment, and food security for the marginalized sections of society.
Unity Among Opposition Parties
Highlighting a sense of unity among opposition parties, Kharge pointed out that 27 INDIA bloc parties were standing together on fundamental issues of importance. He emphasized the alliance’s determination to confront the “anti-people and anti-democratic BJP government.”
Vindictive Actions by BJP Dispensation
Kharge accused the BJP government of resorting to vindictive actions against opposition parties in response to the growing opposition alliance. He condemned these actions as an attempt to stifle the opposition in Parliament and limit public scrutiny.
Concerns Over Upcoming Parliament Session
Expressing concerns about the ruling party’s intentions, Kharge raised questions about the forthcoming special session of Parliament. He suggested that the session might not align with the interests of the people.
Critique of Modi Government’s Performance
Kharge did not mince words when evaluating the performance of the Narendra Modi government. He described it as a “complete failure” in addressing critical issues such as inflation, unemployment, violence in Manipur, income inequality, and the plight of farmers and laborers.
Manipuri Crisis and Its Implications
Kharge drew attention to the ongoing crisis in Manipur, characterizing it as a tragedy unfolding before the nation’s eyes. He criticized the Modi government for failing to contain the violence, which had extended from Manipur to Nuh in Haryana.
Adding “Fuel to Fire”
In his address, Kharge expressed concern that the ruling party, communal organizations, and certain sections of the media were exacerbating the existing challenges by contributing to tensions and unrest.
Economic Concerns
Kharge concluded by highlighting the precarious state of the country’s economy. He pointed to the rising prices of essential commodities as a pressing issue affecting the common people adversely.
