Congress Expels Antagarh MLA Anoop Nag for Contesting as an Independent
In a significant development, the ruling Congress has expelled Antagarh MLA Anoop Nag for defying the party’s directives and deciding to run as an Independent candidate in the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, scheduled for November 7 and 17. The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee, acting on the instructions of state unit chief Deepak Baij, announced this disciplinary action against Mr. Nag.
Disciplinary Action for Defying Party
Mr. Nag’s decision to contest as an Independent against the official Congress candidate, Roopsingh Potai, in the Antagarh (ST) seat has led to his expulsion from the party for six years. This action underscores the Congress’s commitment to upholding party discipline and unity during the electoral process.
State Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, TS Singh Deo, emphasized the party’s stance, stating that they would always attempt to mediate and bring party members back in line when they deviate from the party’s course. However, when such efforts fail, disciplinary actions become necessary.
Antagarh is set to go to the polls in the first phase of the elections on November 7. The expulsion of Anoop Nag serves as a reminder of the importance of party unity and adherence to party lines, especially during crucial electoral contests.
