Compensation Disparity in Jammu and Kashmir
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha shed light on a unique scenario prevalent in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for compensation when constructing roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY). He revealed that this peculiar situation doesn’t exist in any other state across the nation.Sinha stated that the J-K administration offers compensation exceeding the actual road project cost, a practice not envisaged within the PMGSY scheme. He further emphasized that the money allocated for compensation surpasses the funds designated for road construction, resulting in an unusual financial discrepancy.
Different Practices Across India
In contrast to Jammu and Kashmir’s compensation requirement, Sinha pointed out that in various other states, citizens willingly provide their land to facilitate road construction. He underscored the common practice where people in different regions voluntarily offer their land for the development of roads, a significant departure from the situation in his home state.Sinha’s comments highlighted the disparities in approaches to road construction across the nation, raising questions about the fairness and effectiveness of the current system.

Balancing Rights and Duties
While Sinha acknowledged the importance of citizens’ rights, he emphasized that people should also be cognizant of their responsibilities as law-abiding citizens. He suggested that an awareness of both rights and duties is crucial for the well-being of society as a whole. In this context, he encouraged individuals to consider the broader implications of their actions on road construction and their impact on the community. Sinha’s appeal was grounded in the notion that a balanced understanding of rights and duties could lead to more efficient road construction processes in the region.
Progress in Jammu and Kashmir
Manoj Sinha highlighted significant advancements in road construction within Jammu and Kashmir. Over the past three years, the region has witnessed a remarkable increase in the speed of road construction, surpassing threefold. Additionally, the speed of project completion has surged tenfold, reflecting a significant improvement in infrastructure development under the PMGSY scheme.Sinha’s insights provide an optimistic view of the region’s progress in infrastructure development, hinting at a brighter future for Jammu and Kashmir’s road connectivity.
