Violence and Injuries
Clashes between supporters of Tripura’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Tipra Motha, a new party formed by erstwhile royal Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman, have resulted in twelve people being injured in the state’s Sepahijala district. Among the injured are several policemen who were attempting to control the situation. In addition to human casualties, several two-wheelers were vandalized during the unrest. Rathindra Debbarma, the officer-in-charge of the Takarjala police station, is among the injured individuals, and all have received medical treatment at the Takarjala Primary Health Center.
Clash Details and Accusations
The clashes reportedly began when Tipra Motha workers were accused of obstructing BJP supporters from participating in a pre-scheduled event, leading to the violent confrontations. However, there are counterclaims that outsiders affiliated with the BJP were responsible for causing disturbances in the region.
Political Accusations
Takarjala MLA and Tipra Motha leader Biswajit Koloi has accused the BJP of bringing outsiders into the area and inciting violence that harms the local population. He criticized the role of the police and the ruling party in the incident and alleged that everything was pre-planned.
Security Measures
Following the clashes, life in Jampuijala and Takarjala has been disrupted, and the areas remain tense. A significant number of security forces have been deployed to prevent further escalation of violence.
BJP Campaign and Parliamentary Elections
The BJP had been conducting a campaign in the Takarjala and Jampuijala areas for several days, culminating in a workers’ conference led by the party’s state president Rajib Bhattacharya. This conference was scheduled to be held at the Bukruai Community Hall in Jampuijala block.
